The Master’s Degree

When this seemed like an ordinary recession, there was a great deal of advice to stay in school (college, graduate school). But is a master’s degree worth it?

I’m not convinced that measuring a degree’s power entirely on income potential is a fair index. And all master’s degrees are not created equally. But it’s interesting to read the opinions on What Is a Master’s Degree Worth?

  1. The short answer is–it depends. In one of my jobs, it means an extra hundred dollars extra per course. That’s hardly worth it for the expense and time drain.

Again, I think in a buyer’s market, employers are shooting high, hoping to find their dream candidate. Still, I often find it comical when a $30,000 per year jobs requires seven years of related experience and (preferably) a Master’s Degree.

  2. Comical in a sad and tragic sort of way….
