As you can probably see from the scarcity of posts, I’ve been very busy. I started a new full-time (outside the home) job in February, and it really takes a lot of my time.

After more than five years of beings self-employed, it’s odd to have a boss again. It’s even more peculiar to be paid regularly and have benefits. But I’m managing to cope. And I knew that it was time for me to leave publishing and go in a new direction.

I do have one question for you though: How do you find time to exercise?

    Welcome back!

Finding time to exercise is tough – and my partner and I don’t have children! I have a demanding job, though. I exercise early – I’m at the gym at 4:30 a.m. every other day, for 90 minutes. To do that, I’m usually in bed by 8:30 p.m. That’s the hardest part, but it does keep me out of trouble, often.

As you probably know, the time management gurus say to integrate exercise into your day (e.g. bike or walk to work if possible, take the stairs, walk during breaks and at lunch, stretch or do weight resistance exercises at your desk.) I think this makes sense. In my 30+ years of exercising with intention, I’ve found that frequency is more important than intensity. Good luck!

  2. God I missed you! I wondered what happened. First, your site is so cute. Second, exercise. Ha! Your kidding right? You are working full time, you have a kid, you are married - when is there time for that? - Jacqueline

  3. what a transition you’ve been through

having a boss after being self-employed is a tough gig

may you find ways to keep the soul happy

    exercise? what’s that :)

buy a dog - then you have to take it for walks

I find that getting up that extra 30 minutes in the morning is hard, but works. Also exercising at lunch works. I have a few work friends with kids and they have a couple of strategies - get up before the rest of the house does or stay “late” from home to go to the gym and workout before getting back with the family. I think when starting a new job setting up a routine or schedule will help you adjust to getting back to an office atmosphere.

Best wishes! I know you can do it! (and congratulations!)

  5. Well, I know you have a dog, and a SAHD who can walk her. I personally find no time to exercise but I wish I did. My best suggestion would be to get one of those things that counts the number of steps you have taken. I think you would be surprised at how many you take just doing regular stuff. But try to make it a goal to do 10k/day.

BTW this is not original. Hafidha is doing it and posts her achievements on Facebook. :-)

  6. I still don’t have an answer! I only work about 20-25 hrs, from home (thanks to daycare) and sometimes I can spill out a couple hours over the course of a week for exercise. Mostly it’s the weekend.

    I miss your posts, too!

  7. It is difficult, especially with kids! You really just have to squeeze a small amount in at a time, maybe even doing some exercises at home that don’t take equipment or a lot of room.

  8. Thanks everyone. Those are helpful thoughts.

I’ve started some walking at lunch, which has helped somewhat.
