Hmm, we still have switchboard operators at my employer - though there are not so many switches involved, just a phone with a transfer button and a computerized list to look up the extension of the person the caller wants.

I was an executive secretary (shorthand and transcibing/letter writing). No more typewriters, no more dictation, no more need of secretaries. Everyone types their own and it looks terrible. Most men don’t type a good letter, don’t know how to space, spell make new paragraphs.
